The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito was a British multi-role fighter aircraft with a crew of two.
It was in service during and after World War II.
One of the few operational front-line aircraft of the period to be built almost entirely of wood, it was nicknamed "The Wooden Wonder".
The Mosquito was also affectionately known as "Mossie" by its crews. Originally designed as an unarmed fast bomber, the Mosquito was adapted for a variety of roles, including low- to medium-altitude tactical day bomber, high-altitude night bomber, scout, day or night fighter, fighter-bomber, intruder, maritime attack aircraft, and fast photo-reconnaissance aircraft.
It was also used by the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) as a fast transport aircraft to carry small, high-value cargoes through enemy-controlled airspace to and from neutral countries.
A single passenger could fly in the aircraft's bomb bay when adapted for that purpose.
