The hunt for the Bismarck is one of the most famous and well-known epics in the history of naval warfare.
Along with the Tirpitz, the Bismarck was the largest battleship in World War 2.
The 251 m long vessel was commissioned on 24.08.1940.
After completing her training voyages, she took part in the Rhine Exercise.
On 24.05.1941, she sank the British battle cruiser H.M.S. Hood in a sea battle off Greenland. Afterwards, the bow-damaged Bismarck set course for a French harbour.
During the pursuit by British ships and aircraft the vessel was shot out of action on 27.05.1941 and sank in the Atlantic.
