During the Second World War, the British military put various types of civilian trucks with loading areas into military service.
These "Light Utility Cars" were put into service regardless of manufacturer, make or year and were affectionately called "Tilly" by British military personnel.
The average "Light Utility Car" was powered by a 30hp engine and could be seen on many fronts.
In the second half of World War II other vehicles took over front line duties, but the existing vehicles remained in service s and supported Allied forces in various roles on airfields and in telecommunications operations.
