It offered a complete performance package with the firepower of the imposing 7.5cm L/70 gun, excellent protection thanks to its sloped armor, and maneuverability thanks to a 700 hp gasoline engine.
Some 840 Ausf.D Panthers were produced between January and September 1943, and the first time it saw action was in July of that year at the Battle of Kursk.
Although not all went smoothly, the Panther was able to take out some 140 Soviet tanks from a range of 1500 to 2000 meters, all while being impeccably protected by its sloped plate.
The D version was followed by the improved A- and G- versions, and revolutionized German tank design.
It remained at the front until the end of hostilities.
