The M109 is an American 155mm self-propelled howitzer first introduced in the early 1960s to replace the M44.
The A2 version received 27 combat-enhancing upgrades to improve reliability and service intervals.
Most notable is the long-barreled 155mm M185 cannon in the new M178 cradle.
A balistic protective hood for the panorama telescope and a new tube travel lock were installed.
Increased the ammo pool for the 155mm ammo from 28 to 36.
During M109A2 production, the swim collar was also removed.
