In the second half of the Second World War, the Russian Army used the chassis of the JS-2 heavy tank to build the JSU-152 heavy self-propelled gun.
It had improved armour protection and a simple superstructure that housed a massive 152mm ML-20S howitzer.
In the summer of 1944, during Operation Bagration, it saw its first front-line action.
Soviet soldiers nicknamed it Zveroboy (Beast Killer) because it could destroy Tiger I and Panther.
The JSU-152 proved its effectiveness against both tanks and fortifications all the way to the Battle of Berlin and contributed significantly to the Russian victory.
