The Husky VMMD (Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector) is a modern South African mine detector. The first prototypes were probably built in the early 1970s. It is powered by a single Mercedes-Benz OM 906LA engine with 201 hp. It has no fixed armament as standard. The Husky's main task was to clear paths of landmines. Cars of this type always traveled in pairs, with the first car acting as a mine detector and the second neutralizing them. Huskies are currently in use in the armies of many countries, including South Africa, Spain and the USA. The US Army purchased them in 2010.
