The Lun-class ekranoplan is the only ground effect vehicle ever used
It was designed in 1975 and used by the Soviet and later Russian Navy from 1987 until sometime in the late 1990s.
It was intended for airborne troops and is unaffected by sea mines and other obstacles as it flies several meters above water level or other relatively flat surfaces and can land on a beach.
Three such ground effect units were built, the first of which entered service with the Soviet Naval Aviation in 1977.
