Me262 HGIII "V-Tail"

Messerschmitt's design and development department worked on new, innovative projects as well as the further development of existing designs, including the Me 262.
In order to make progress in the field of supersonic flight and to optimize flight characteristics, the Me 262 V9 was equipped as the first stage of a high-speed aircraft (HGI) with a flat canopy and swept horizontal tailplane as well as an enlarged vertical stabilizer.
The last flights took place in March 1945.
In the second stage, the wings were to be swept at 35 degrees, while in the third stage 45 degrees were planned. In addition, the engines were to be located on the left and right of the fuselage. A three-seater night fighter was also planned in this configuration.
After the end of the war, these projects were no longer continued.
