The first encounters with the T-34 in the USSR in 1941 were a shock for the invading German troops, who had previously been very successful with their armoured troops.
Their response was the Panther, which was first deployed in 1943.
It featured sloping armour, a powerful Maybach engine and a powerful 7.5cm cannon - all in all an impressive combination of firepower, mobility and survivability that proved to be a boon for the German forces and a problem for the Allies.
