After the victory in the West, on July 5, 1940, the In 6 commissioned Wa Scheck to develop a light tank destroyer. This was intended for the airborne troops and the non-motorized infantry divisions.
WaPrüf commissioned the company Rheinmetall-Borsig to develop the 5 cm Pak 38 L/60 on the chassis of the Borgward ammunition tractor. In order to save weight, a tartan armor was required with two 4 mm thick armor plates on the front and for the gun as well as two 3 cm armor plates on the side and rear. This thickness is enough that they were 7.92mm SMK safe.
The chassis was a modified VK 3.02 ammunition tractor, powered by a 2.3 liter Borgward 50 HP engine that enabled the 4.5 tonne vehicle to reach a speed of 30 km/h.
The crew consisted of 3 men (commander/gunner, driver and loader. In tank program 41 of May 30, 1941, the requirement for this vehicle is stated as 3144 units.
The plan was to start production in 1943 with an output of 100 units from April 1, 44 and 200 units from April 1, 45.
Two experimental devices were manufactured by July 1, 1942 and used for military testing.
On August 8, 1942, the 19th Panzer Division reported on the vehicles, but the report has been lost.
