Einloggen und Bewertung schreiben
In March 1965, Bell began development of an attack helicopter based on the Model 204 (UH-1B/-1C Iroquois).
The U.S. Army would be provided with a test helicopter combining a new narrow, small-section fuselage with tandem seating arrangement, engine, main rotor and transmission from the UH-1C.
Designated the Model 209, it was tested from December of that year, with orders for two pre-production models and 110 production units following in April 1966.
Finally designated the AH-1G and Huey Cobra, deliveries to the U.S. Army began in June 1967.
These were used in combat operations in Vietnam from September.
1,127 AH-1Gs were delivered to the U.S. Army, including the TH-1G training helicopters.
