When military aircraft began to break the sound barrier in the 1950s, it was assumed that the pilot should fly in the prone position to better withstand the enormous g-loads to be expected.
A Meteor Mk.8 was converted for such a pilot cockpit, which was simply attached to the fuselage in front of a standard cockpit.
