Republic P-47D Thunderbolt "Bubbletop"
In May 1941, as the war raged in Europe, a single-engine fighter weighing over 4 tons made its maiden flight.
This fighter was the XP-47B, the prototype of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, of which a total of 15683 units were built.
Since the appearance of the P-51 Mustang, the P-47D Thunderbolt showed its capability in ground attack missions.
The P-47D Thunderbolt "Bubbletop" with its bubble-shaped cockpit canopy gained notoriety as a powerful, well-balanced fighter-bomber.
The 1/4-tonne light truck 4x4 - known as a Jeep - featured a powerful, lightweight chassis and reliable engine, and over 600000 units were produced in World War II alone.
