The Saunders-Roe SR.53 was a prototype interceptor aircraft with combined jet and rocket propulsion developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the early 1950s.
It was intended to be an interceptor that used its rocket engine to climb quickly and approach approaching enemy bombers at high speed, after which the aircraft would then return to its base using its jet engine.
