Scheuch-Schlepper

The Me 163 rocket-powered aircraft was not equipped with normal landing gear and therefore could not taxi under its own power to its take-off position or after landing.
The Komet therefore needed another means of getting around the airfield, and this was found in the form of the Scheuch tug.
This rather dainty vehicle was originally developed by brothers Rudolf and Eugen Scheuch as an inexpensive and widely used agricultural tractor.
The Scheuch company was founded in Erfurt and the tractor was developed with the help of Auto-Union, a branch of the DKW-Einbau-Motoren company.
The Scheuch tractor was usually used in two configurations, either with a rear auxiliary wheel to tow the Komet or with a special device to recover the Komet after landing.
