The mobile gantry crane was "the" lifting device for repairing the new heavy tanks Tiger, Panther and Panzerjäger Elefant near the front.
From 1944 onwards, the crane was put to another unusual use: It was used by the Division z.V. to load and unload delivered A4 (V2) rockets onto the "Vidalwagen" and the "Meiller" launch vehicle.
