Westland Whirlwind FB MK.I Fighter-Bomber Hi-tech

In the days before the outbreak of the Second World War, the British Air Ministry issued requirements calling for two types of new fighter aircraft:
one lighter, armed only with machine guns, and the other with heavier cannon armament.
The machine-gun equipped Spitfire and Hurricane were developed to these specifications.
The demand for the heavier type led to the construction of the twin-engined Westland Whirlwind fighter.
The Whirlwind was used in both the fighter and ground attack roles over the English Channel.
The model of the Whirlwind shows the fighter-bomber variant of this type.
