In order to provide a tank that could compete with the German Tigers and Panthers in World War II, the USA developed the T26 battle tank.
When it was ready for use, the Tiger B (King Tiger) already existed, so development continued.
Several 78-ton tanks were developed, but these were not completed before the end of the war.
Nevertheless, the prototypes were completed and tested extensively.
The T29 was based on an extended chassis of the M26 Pershing, so that it had 8 pairs of road wheels and 7 support rollers.
Its weight of around 65 tons was moved by a liquid-cooled 770 hp engine.
This enabled it to reach a speed of around 35 km/h.
The armament consisted of a 105 mm cannon, two coaxial cal. 50 machine guns and another on the turret, as well as a cal. 30 bow machine gun.
The crew consisted of a driver, a co-driver, a gunner, two loaders and the commander.
Although he himself never got past the prototype stage, the knowledge gained from his further developments was incorporated into the development of the M103
