U.S. Self-Propelled 155mm Gun M40

Einloggen und Bewertung schreiben
Produced in the final stages of World War II, the M40 self-propelled gun was a combination of proven M4 Sherman chassis components and the powerful 155-mm "Long Tom" gun.
Increased mobility over its predecessors and a range of 23.5 kilometers when using explosive rounds made it versatile.
Stability during firing was ensured by a large ground anchor.
An air-cooled 460hp engine allowed a top speed of 38 km/h.
Production began in February 1945, and although it was officially introduced in May 1945, none of the 418 guns produced by the end of the war saw service.
Instead, this powerful self-propelled gun was used in the Korean War, where it provided long range engagement of enemy positions.
