M3A1 Scout Car / Spähwagen

In 1939, the M3A1 scout car was introduced, which was an important component of the mechanised US forces.
This four-wheel drive vehicle reached a speed of 80 km/h with its 87 hp 6-cylinder engine and was equipped with one 12.7 mm and up to two 7.62 mm machine guns.
It had room for 8 people and was equipped with a trench roller on the nose to help negotiate obstacles, as well as armoured radiator fins and armoured windscreens and windshield covers.
Around 21,000 units were produced and used by US forces in the Philippines, Tunisia and Sicily, among other places.
Over 3,000 were also supplied to the Red Army under the "Lend-Lease" programme; the Soviet forces used it in mechanised and armoured divisions, where it was used as a reconnaissance vehicle, command vehicle and even as a towing vehicle for guns.
