The M3 Lee (officially Medium Tank, M3) was an American-made medium tank built during World War II.
In Britain, the tank was named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The M3A1 version with a cast hull was used only for training purposes and never saw real combat.
497 hulls were converted to the "Canal Defense Light", where the 37 mm guns in the turret were replaced by a searchlight with a powerful carbon arc light that could be set to flicker quickly to disorient the enemy.
