The PLA Navy's re-equipped Type 055 destroyer is a Chinese-designed and built guided missile destroyer. It is a 4th generation destroyer of Chinese production with a length of about 180 m and a fully loaded displacement of about 13,000 tons. It is one of the largest missile destroyers in the world.

The Type 055 destroyer is equipped with a 112-cell vertical launch system, 64 cells in the front and 48 cells in the rear. It can launch various missiles such as HQ-9 anti-aircraft missiles and YJ-18 anti-ship missiles, thus having a strong regional anti-aircraft and anti-ship capability. In addition, the Type 055 destroyer is equipped with a series of medium and short-range weapons, such as a 130mm H/PJ-45 naval gun, a 30mm H/PJ-11 short-range cannon, commonly known as the Wanfa gun, a 24-cell HQ-10 short-range anti-aircraft missile, an anti-submarine torpedo launch system and a 155mm CS/AR anti-ship missile, which has strong bombing capabilities.

The Type 055 destroyer has a powerful electronic system. It looks obviously camouflaged and can effectively suppress radar and infrared signals. The unprecedented integration of the multi-band radar gives the destroyer the leading regional air defense and national missile defense capabilities.

Construction of the first Type 055 destroyer, Nanchang, began in 2014. Since its commissioning, Nanchang has participated in various exercises and drills at home and abroad many times. The destroyer often appears in international waters north of the Aleutian Islands and south of the Nansha Islands in formation with PLA aircraft carriers or accompanied by other warships. In the future, more and more giant warships will sail under the military flag of the Chinese PLA Bayi in the Western Pacific.
