The Pratt & Whitney R2800 Double Wasp is an American two-row, air-cooled, 18-cylinder radial aircraft engine. It is one of the most famous radial engines and is often used in American aircraft. The first F4U Corsair with an R2800 engine was the first single-engine US fighter to reach a speed of over 400 mph (640 km/h) in level flight in October 1944. Thanks to continuous improvements, the R2800 is also used in many long-range patrol aircraft due to its reliability, as well as in many restored old military fighters. It is currently still in use around the world.
